Jam: The Lemon Twigs

Many people think of a concert’s opening act as something to suffer through before their beloved headliner or something to skip altogether. This is a mistake.

Hailing from Long Island, The Lemon Twigs are fronted by brothers Brian and Michael D’Addario, both lead singers and multi-instrumentalists. Their debut album, Do Hollywood, was released in 2016. After a few more albums over the last several years, while their latest, Everything Harmony, was released in 2023.

Their sound is reminiscent of ’60s pop and rock, with dreamy, Beach Boys-esque vocal harmonies, catchy melodies, and electric guitars. Their show as openers for The Killers was fun and upbeat, high energy and a delight to watch, opening with “The One” then launching into the sweet “In My Head.” The set also included a mix of old and new sings, such as the catchy “Live in Favor of Tomorrow,” “Ghost Run Free,” crooning “I Wanna Prove to You,” ballad “Any Time of Day,” and more.

The band also tapped into the conversation on social media surrounding musicians stopping shows for the audience’s safety — while it wasn’t totally clear what they thought was happening, they briefly stopped the show to address something happening with the crowd on the floor, then quickly resumed when they were sure all was well.

The Lemon Twigs’ tour with The Killers is over, but they’re headlining a tour in Australia now.
