Weekly Playlist 9/13
Every Friday, I share the highlights of what I’ve been listening to over the course of the week, from old favorites to new discoveries.
Today brought the news of the death of Eddie Money, so it’s only fitting that we start the playlist — and the weekend itself with the classic “Take Me Home Tonight.”
From there, there’s a lot of fun: Grimes’ “Violence,” released last week; Beyoncé’s “Water,” with its great beat, melody, and Pharrell; “Soulmate” by Lizzo, who is still dominating everything; and “Cel U Lar Device,” which is essentially Erykah Badu’s take on “Hotline Bling.”
Things take a turn starting with “Personal Jesus” by Depeche Mode, after a look earlier this week at its notable covers. LA band Twin XL recently released a fun, light, stripped down of their track “Good,” which was already a perfect summer song, and as we move into cooler weather, John Mayer’s breezy “Carry Me Away” is nice accompaniment. We slow down some more with “Suzanne” by Leonard Cohen and end with rock — “Neighborhood #1 (Tunnels)” by Arcade Fire, “Sweat” by The All-American Rejects, and finally, the raucous “Go!” by female-dominated rock band Plumtree.
