Every Friday, I share the highlights of what I’ve been listening to over the course of the week, from old favorites to new discoveries.

A short one this week, with quite a mix of styles.

Teen Daze has been making dreamy ambient music for several years now — including a release drawing inspiration from C.S. Lewis’ Space Trilogy — and this remix of the bright and aptly named “Spring” is lovely.

Pretty much everyone is familiar with The Weeknd, “Starboy,” and its collaborators, Daft Punk, but it’s still one of the standouts of the album of the same name with a great beat.

I’m not the biggest Post Malone fan, but I can’t deny that “Allergic” is doing something pretty great — it has a nice melody, a little bit of guitar, and a sound that’s sort of fun and upbeat juxtaposed with lyrics like “I’m friends with all my demons.” It’s very short, clocking in at just 2 1/2 minutes, and I’d love to hear more of it, but there’s something to be said for not dragging something out, especially in music.

We close this very brief playlist with Patti Smith’s “Because the Night,” an undeniable, instantly recognizable classic that builds to a beautiful intensity — a sense of urgency, even, in the vocal, particularly as it nears the end. Smith is doing some of her best work here, and the track and its album, Easter, are famous and well-regarded for good reason.
